World Economy

December 30th, 2008

This is a bit out there, but seriously. What is up with the economy?

The euro nearly hit polarity with the dollar and hitting polarity with sterling looks like an almost definite. Something we thought would never happen.

People are not spending money any more, jobs are going left right and center, companies are doing major restructuring and the ripple effect has yet to travel through the whole ecosystem.

I honestly don’t know much about the economy as a whole, but I know that people have been spending beyond there means and companies have ramped up production of products to this inflated level which no longer exists. What will happen companies like Ford, GM, Toyota (just wait, they are in the Yen which is extremely expensive at moment), Nissan.. yes all car companies but also WoolWorths in the UK.

What will happen to stores that are not necessities, retail, book stores(yes they are important but hardly going to have the same volume), rental stores (competing with online video and on demand TV), DIY, Computer Stores and music stores to name a few sections. Note that I have not mentioned food because I do not restaurants will suffer as much as other sections.

The other thing is, I see people trying to advert a major recession but I do not see plans for the long term how to ensure the future of jobs, is that even possible?

Scary times ahead and its only the start.

My life’s passion

December 30th, 2008

I have always known I wanted to work in the IT industry, but how does anybody know what part of any area do they want to work in?

My interests have always been with networking, don’t ask why, I’ve just found networks and large numbers interesting. The way a network works and the way it is modeled on society and the brain. Take CSMA/CD which is a collision detection system. It works similar to the way we talk to others in a real world environment. We wait for a gap in the conversation then start talking adding to the conversation. We use fillers like ummm, ahh to ensure we keep having the priority in the conversation. If we start to talk at the same time with somebody else both people stop talking then say sorry and wait to see who starts to talk again. CSMA/CD works similar to this.

The other thing I enjoy with networks is that there is no one answer to network design or an issue regarding a network. There may be many paths, more than one path may satisfy a criteria, costs of bandwidth may dictate which path to use and politics can also decide the path’s used.

Currently I have a CCNA stay tuned to see what happens next ;)

iPod Touch 32GB

December 30th, 2008

Well,

I am buying my first apple product soon. Sometime in Janurary. This is first for me as I usually do not like apple products but this is one product they make that I do really really like.

I have played with the iPhone in an o2 store and it was quick and responsive (it was on wireless rather than 3g so that is a bit of a con), the touch screen was phenominal.

The reason I have yet to buy it is that its €65 more expensive in Ireland than in the UK. That doesn’t sound like much but when you think that a trip to england and back is €40 or there abouts you can still save €15 though you’ll probably spend that on a Taxi. However if you live close to the north and plan on going there in Janurary you may as well wait.

This is one nice advantage with the sterling being close to polarity with the euro!
